Shelter construction

Designing the portable rain shelter was challenging.

The shelter needed to be 80 feet long, 24 feet wide and without any internal supporting members which would interfere with the operation of the sprayer.

The backhoe in photo 4 is digging a trench across the plot to a depth of 6 feet to allow for the installation of tdr probes in a vertical profile for measuring volumetric water content. The TDR system consisted of a Tektronix 1502B cable tester, a Campbell Scientific Datalogger (CR10), 9 multiplexers (SDMX50) and 64 tdr probes.
